When something feels “off,” but you don’t know why.
Do you feel like focus has been harder, your mood is unpredictable, or stress lingers long after it should? Maybe you’ve tried slowing down, pushing harder, changing routines, but something still doesn’t add up.
Or perhaps you’re experiencing chronic pain or stress, preparing for surgery, or recovering from a medical event, diagnosis or motor vehicle accident, and you need an assessment for treatment planning, insurance, or workplace support.
Assessments at Aura Psychology help you understand what your mind and body have been trying to tell you. You’ll leave with answers instead of blame, and a roadmap that aligns with your life, health, and goals.
If you’re noticing:
- Trouble focusing, remembering, or following through
- Feeling overwhelmed, foggy, or mentally “cluttered”
- Repeated burnout, anxiety, or frustration despite effort
- Restlessness, irritability, or emotional ups and downs
- Challenges managing stress, motivation, or daily routines
- Mood changes that don’t match what’s happening around you
- Cognitive changes after an accident, injury, or medical condition
- Feeling misunderstood by employers, your partner, family, or even yourself
An assessment helps you understand the full picture of your mind, body, and experiences.

Mental health assessment shouldn’t slow down care.
We use tools like CAT-MH®, an adaptive, research-validated system that transforms traditional evaluations into precise and personalized experiences that take minutes—not hours. Using intelligent technology that adjusts with each response, CAT-MH® provides comprehensive insight across nine key mental health domains, from depression to PTSD, allowing us to understand your needs quickly and accurately.
We combine these results with clinical interviews, standardized tools, and a whole-person, integrative lens to clarify diagnoses and identify strengths and challenges. You’ll leave with a clear, plain-language report, and targeted recommendations for treatment.

Why Work With Aura Psychology for Assessments?
At Aura Psychology, our approach is:
Boutique Clinical Care
Here, you’re not just another file. We offer boutique-level attention with the depth of clinical training that includes thoughtful scheduling, careful preparation, and feedback that feels personal, not generic. Your assessment is tailored to your story, your health, and your real life, not a one-size-fits-all battery of tests.
Evidence-Based & Integrative
We use research-backed tools and clinical interviews to clarify ADHD, anxiety, trauma, burnout, and stress-related concerns. Each assessment is grounded in evidence-based psychology and a mind–body lens, recognizing that emotional patterns often show up as tension, fatigue, or pain in the body.
Trauma-Informed & Thoughtful
Safety and pacing are central to our work. From the first consultation to the feedback session, we move at a rhythm that respects your nervous system. Assessments are never about “catching you out.” Instead, they’re about understanding your story with context, care, and nuance.
Collaborative & Respectful
We see assessment as a partnership, not a verdict. You’ll know what we’re looking at, why it matters, and how it connects to your day-to-day life. Clients often describe the process as grounding and validating, rather than clinical or cold.
Bilingual & Accessible
Assessments are offered in English and French, in-person in Calgary and online across Alberta, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Nunavut, so you can access clarity and support wherever you are.
We help you move from confused to clear, from second-guessing to self-knowing, and from drifting to directing your next steps with purpose.
It’s time to see the whole picture.

Questions About Assessments
What is a psychological or ADHD assessment?
A psychological assessment is a structured, evidence-based process used to understand how your mind, emotions, and body work together. It helps identify patterns in thinking, attention, mood, memory, and stress responses.
At Aura Psychology, assessments are designed to clarify what may be contributing to ongoing challenges such as focus difficulties, anxiety, burnout, emotional overwhelm, or trauma-related symptoms. The results provide clear insights and next steps, whether that’s individual therapy, couples therapy, medical consultation, or workplace/school accommodations.
Why would someone get an assessment?
Most clients seek an assessment when they’ve tried coping strategies or therapy but still feel confused about why certain struggles persist. They may wonder:
- “Do I have ADHD, anxiety, or something else?”
- “Why can’t I focus or follow through, even when I care deeply?”
- “Why does stress affect me more than others?”
A psychological or ADHD Assessment helps uncover the why behind these questions, providing clarity, validation, and a personalized roadmap for treatment, trauma-informed therapy, and support with a Calgary Psychologist.
How long does the assessment process take?
The process typically unfolds over 2–3 appointments, depending on your goals and the complexity of your concerns.
It usually includes:
- An initial clinical interview
- Standardized questionnaires and cognitive/emotional screening tools
- A personalized feedback session to review findings and next steps
You’ll receive a clear written report and recommendations for therapy, strategies, or other supports. Most clients describe this step as both insightful and relieving, where they finally have language for what they’ve been experiencing.
How are assessment results used?
Results are used to guide your next steps. Depending on the findings, you may receive recommendations for:
- Individual Therapy or Couples Therapy
- ADHD treatment or trauma-informed therapy (e.g., EMDR, CBT, clinical hypnosis)
- Workplace or school accommodations
- Self-regulation and stress-management tools
Collaboration with your physician or other care providersThe goal is not just to name a condition, but to help you understand yourself, your patterns, and your path forward in a clear, practical way.
Will I be “labelled” by an assessment?
No. The purpose of an assessment at Aura Psychology is insight, not labels. A diagnosis may be part of the report if it’s clinically appropriate, but the focus is on understanding why you feel and function the way you do, not defining you by it.
Clients often describe feeling a sense of relief and self-compassion after the process, because what once felt like personal failure begins to make sense through the lens of neurobiology, trauma, ADHD, or emotional regulation.

How Life Can Feel After An Assessment
When you finally have language for what’s been happening inside you, everything begins to shift. Many clients describe assessment as the moment things “finally make sense,” easing self-doubt and opening up clearer next steps.
- Relief and recognition, with a clearer understanding of your patterns instead of wondering what’s “wrong” with you.
- More self-compassion, as blame softens and you see your struggles in context rather than as personal failure.
- Greater clarity and focus, with a concrete roadmap for therapy, supports, and day-to-day changes.
- A more grounded nervous system, with less chronic tension, fatigue, and stress weighing on your body.
- Stronger mind–body awareness, with tools to notice early warning signs and prevent burnout instead of only reacting to it.
“Think of assessment as a map of your inner landscape, showing not just where you struggle, but where you’re strongest.”
